Species Name: Pseudophycis barbata

Description

The Bearded Rock Cod is also known as Southern Rock Cod, Red Rock Cod, Bearded Cod, Cod and Slimies. The body colour is Reddish to reddish brown on the upper flanks and back and head progressing down the body to a lighter pinkish or white colour on the lower flanks and belly with an opalescent sheen. Bearded Rock Cod often have black outer margins around the anal, caudal and dorsal fins. The body is covered in a slimy mucous hence the name slimies. The Bearded Rock Cod can grow to more than 60cm in length and more than 5Kg.
