Description
The Maori Cod is also known as Scribbled Cod and Maori Grouper. The Maori Cod is beautifully marked fish the head area is reddish brown with cream markings or blotches. The red brown colour continues down the flanks becoming a diffused pattern with five or more lighter cream coloured bars and spots with the belly and lower gill area is paler. The soft dorsal fin, Caudal and anal fin have a distinctive yellow outer edge. After death the cream patterns and bars fade leaving the red brown diffused pattern that uniformly covers the body. Maori Cod can grow to 60cm or better and catches up to this size are not uncommon.
